Summer along with her five siblings were born on the streets in Taiwan.  Passerby took pity on them and fed the litter occasionally.  All five siblings got hit by the traffic and died.  Summer was also hit by a car and broke her left hind leg.  Because she was sent to the vet too late, she ends up with a inoperable callus.  She walks with a limp and is not suitable for intensive exercise.  When one tries to put a harness on her, she would keep backing up and try to escape.  She’s afraid to go out on the streets/walk on leash because of her traumatic accident.  She would want to run back to the house.  One can try to encourage her progress with special yummy treats.  She can stay home alone and doesn’t have separation anxiety.  As a puppy she does like to chew on things so best to puppy proof the home.  As an excited puppy she does gnaw on people’s fingers, a habit that can be corrected.  She feels safe inside her crate and loves to sleep in it but the crate cannot be closed or she would whine to come out.  She adapts to a new environment rather quickly and loves to be in her human’s company.  She can be petted everywhere but when she’s picked up off the ground she would be a little nervous and become incontinent.  She’s not protective of food/toys/space towards humans.  She’s protective of food towards other dogs only when she’s inside her crate.  For some reason the other foster dogs like to pick on Summer even the smaller breeds.  She has never retaliated to any provocations.  Summer is very easy-going and docile.  she is looking for a loving and patient family who doesn’t mind her disability and willing to give her time to settle.
